Our Wander Club in the Jizera Mountains
On 21st and 22nd of October, our Wander Club took off to Hejnice, a small town in the Jizera Mountains. On the first day we went to see the Smrk Mountain (a.k.a. the “Spruce” Mountain). At 1124 metres above the sea level, it is the highest mountain in the Jizera Mountains. It is a part of the Jizera Mountains Protected Area, right on the corner of Czech, German and Polish borders. In close proximity is a small spa town, called Libverda. We loved it there. We also saw Hejnice, where you may find the biggest temple dedicated to Saint Mary in the whole neighbourhood of Frýdlant. In this very temple is a gothic replica of the Black Madonna from the 14th century. A lot of singletrack trails are to be found in the neighbourhood of Hejnice, and that means that a lot of cyclists are in the Jizera Mountains. On the following day we decided to go to the Černý Potok (Black Stream) Waterfalls – these beautiful waterfalls are in the Jizerskohorksé Bučiny National Nature Reservation. We watched the meanders, the cold water streaming through the riverbed. After a short pause next to the waterfalls we decended into the valley to Bílý Potok (White Stream), from this small town we took the train to Oldřichovice, where we had lunch at the Ecofarm. From there we took the train once more to Liberec and from there the bus to Prague. All of us loved this trip, our group was great and the weather was nice. We all had a blast and are looking forward to our next trip on 24th and 25th of November – we are going to wander about in the neighbourhood of Kutná Hora.
